One of the first documents to appear in the upcoming rally is a map of prohibited areas. On the map, large parts of the area around the city, which is in the center of the rally, are marked, which means that crews who are willing to participate in the competition are not allowed to enter these areas. Why do we need this?

One of the main tasks of the organizers of the “Samsonas Rally Utena 2024” is to ensure a level playing field for the participating crews. This is usually done through technical scrutineering, where the race cars are very carefully checked to ensure that they meet the requirements of the class or classification. Another method is to limit visits to the region where the rally takes place so that competitors do not practice and try to memorize the roads on which the rally takes place and thus gain an advantage. This is the purpose of the map of prohibited zones, which essentially indicates the places where participants are not allowed to be until the start of the rally. Violations of this rule can range from fines or time penalties to disqualification, depending on the severity of the violation and other details.

As the areas where it is forbidden for the crews are quite large and often extend through less populated areas and forests, it is quite difficult to ensure compliance with these rules. That is why the organizers of the “Samsonas Rally Utena 2024” are using all possible means to “protect” future special stages. Local hunters and farmers are coming to help, using cameras to monitor what is happening within the prohibited zones and informing the organizers of any violations. This may seem like an excessive measure, but there are already precedents where individuals have been observed trying to violate the principle of level playing field in upcoming special stages. It is therefore being taken extremely seriously again this year.

This year’s map of forbidden places of “Samsonas Rally Utena 2024” includes Utena, Molėtai, Anykščiai and Zarasai districts, on whose roads the race will take place on September 27 and 28.
